Proration is an add-on for Paid Memberships Pro that adjusts membership payments when users change their subscription levels. It calculates the cost difference between plans, so users pay only for the remaining value within the billing cycle.

When a member upgrades or downgrades, the system immediately recalculates the payment at checkout. As a result, the user receives a fair charge based on unused time or remaining credit. In contrast, without proration, users may lose prepaid value or face inconsistent billing.

In addition, the add-on keeps recurring payment dates aligned, even after membership changes. Therefore, billing cycles remain consistent across different subscription levels. Furthermore, it supports both same-period and different-period plans, which increases flexibility for membership structures.

The add-on also allows delayed downgrades, so members can continue using their current plan until the end of the billing period before switching. Overall, it provides a structured method for handling subscription changes while maintaining accurate and fair billing.
