WooCommerce – PayPal Adaptive Payments

WooCommerce – PayPal Adaptive Payments was a payment gateway extension that enabled WooCommerce stores to split payments between multiple receivers during a single transaction. It connected the store to PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API and allowed merchants to distribute funds automatically between partners, vendors, or stakeholders.

The extension supported different payment flows, including simple, parallel, and chained payments. In a simple payment, the full amount went to a single receiver. In contrast, parallel payments split the amount instantly among multiple recipients, while chained payments first sent the total to the store owner and then distributed shares to others.

During checkout, the plugin redirected customers to PayPal to complete the transaction. Therefore, PayPal handled sensitive payment data externally, which improved security and reduced compliance requirements. After payment, the system returned the customer to the store and updated the order status automatically.

In addition, WooCommerce – PayPal Adaptive Payments allowed store owners to assign percentage-based commissions to different receivers at the product level. This made it suitable for marketplaces, multi-vendor stores, and partnership-based sales models.

However, PayPal discontinued Adaptive Payments and restricted access to approved users only. As a result, WooCommerce retired this extension, and it no longer receives updates or support.
