WooCommerce – Paytrail was a payment gateway extension that allowed WooCommerce stores to accept payments through the Paytrail payment service. It connected the store to a Finnish payment platform, enabling transactions via online banking, credit cards, and local payment methods. This integration helped merchants provide multiple payment options within a single checkout flow.

The extension redirected customers to a secure Paytrail payment portal during checkout. As a result, the system handled sensitive payment data externally, which reduced security risks and simplified compliance requirements. After payment completion, the system updated the order status and returned the customer to the store.

In addition, WooCommerce – Paytrail supported features such as card tokenization. This allowed returning customers to save payment details securely for faster future transactions. The plugin also supported invoices, installment payments, and various regional payment providers, making it suitable for both B2C and B2B transactions.

However, WooCommerce has retired this extension and replaced it with a newer version called “Paytrail for WooCommerce.” The updated solution offers improved performance and a broader range of supported payment methods.
